No surprise here. And no dispute about who owns the building and land at the local SDA church where I worship. The Kansas-Nebraska Conference of Seventh-day Adventists owns it. Based on property law and the warranty deed, the local congregation doesn't even exist.

Courts have always made themselves available to settle silly religious disputes about names. I think the Supreme Court finally decided which denomination could officially use the name, "Christian Church".

Our congregation pays all the bills, debts and interest (including paving assessments) but we own nothing. Our local SDA congregation is not even a legal person. Our congregation's got more responsibilities and fewer rights than a co-signer. Legally the sisterhood of churches only exists in the conference by-laws.
